Nightshade Booksという出版社から今年9月30日に発売される予定の"The Living Dead"というペーパーバックにスティーヴン･キングの「自宅出産(原題;Home Delivery)」とジョー･ヒルの「Bobby Conroy Comes Back From the Dead」が収録される模様。

過去に発表されたゾンビ小説を集めたアンソロジーなので新作ではないですが、部数限定でない本にスティーヴン･キングとジョー･ヒルの小説が一緒に掲載されるのはこれが初めてでは。（複数バージョンで計1450部限定のPostscripts#10にスティーヴン･キングの「Graduation Afternoon」とジョー･ヒルの「Thumbprint」が収録されたことはある。Postscripts#10は限定版と言っても「1000部限定サインなしハードカバー版」はまだ在庫があるようですが。）

わたしの手元にあるものではキングの｢Different Seasons｣が(マス・マーケット版ぺーパーバックですが)ちょうど500ページです。

｢いかしたバンドのいる街で(文春文庫)｣の｢スティーヴン・キングによる作品解説｣によると｢自宅出産｣は、｢ジョン･スキップとクレイグ・スペクターのコンビ(中略)が、ジョージ・ロメロのゾンビ三部作映画(中略)に登場するゾンビたちがもし地球を征服したらどうなるかというテーマのもと、さまざまな作家の作品を結集するテーマ・アンソロジー、『死霊たちの宴』の企画を思いついた。このコンセプトに火をつけられて(中略)できあがった」というから由緒正しいゾンビ小説です。

ジョー・ヒルの｢Bobby Conroy Comes Back From the Dead｣は短編集｢20th Century Ghosts｣所収。ただしWikipediaによるとUK版の2年後に出版のUS版から｢20th Century Ghosts｣に追加されたようです。

楽しいアンソロジーになりそうですが、果たして翻訳されるでしょうか?
