スティーヴン・キングの新しい短編集"Just Past Sunset"

The title for Stephen's new short story collection has been chosen. It will be titled Just Past Sunset. The publication date and story list are still being finalized but a fall 2008 date is a possibility.

というわけで、スティーヴン・キングの新しい短編集は"Just Past Sunset"に決定、発売はおそらく今年2008年秋の可能性が高い。

オフィシャルサイトのメッセージボードによると、スティーヴン・キングが複数のインタビューで使っていた"Unnatural Acts of Intercourse" という短編集のタイトルはいくつかの理由で不採用になったそうです。"Just Past Sunset" というタイトルを考えたのはキング自身だが、キングの"first choice" ではないとのこと。

"Unnatural Acts of Intercourse" が不採用の理由はわかりませんが、1月後半のUSA TODAY のインタビュー記事"'Duma Key' finds Stephen King stepping into his own life" には、

"His next book will be a collection of short stories, but he and his publisher can't agree on a title. He wants to call it Unnatural Acts of Human Intercourse, which "could be a tough sell in some markets."

とあり、どうやら出版社側が嫌がったようです。

また、"Just Past Sunset" に収録される作品はいまのところ不明です。

Marvel.com: THE LONG ROAD HOME consists largely of material not found in the Dark Tower books—when it comes to the division of labor, how much of this material was thought up by you, and how much of it came from Robin Furth and Stephen King?

Peter David: Most of it is Robin and Stephen. I read Robin's original outline, which was very good, and suggested some possibilities that spun out of what was already there. Robin did a rewrite that incorporated my thoughts. Nor can we diminish the contributions of [artists] Jae Lee and Richard Isanove, whose visuals helped shape the narrative.


Peter David: I've got a bit more confidence now, a bit more of the path traveled under my boots, as it were. Still, I'm conscious first and foremost of the fact that everyone involved is trying to do right by King and his vision. There's no room for egos here: It's "Stephen King's Dark Tower." We're all just climbing the stairs.


正直なところ私は、スティーヴン・キングは名前を貸しているだけだと決め付けてあまり関心を払ってなかったんですが、The Long Road Home からは（もちろん、The Gunslinger Born も）ちゃんと手に入れて読んでみようと思います。日本語版が出るとは思えないし。（よく考えたら、マーベルのダーク・タワーシリーズを無視するのは、スティーヴン・キング原作の映画を無視するようなものかもしれない。）

2008年1月22日にアメリカで発売されたスティーヴン・キングの"Duma Key" が、USA TODAY の書籍売上週間ランキング(1/21-27)で第1位になった。(2008年1月31日付 USA TODAY Best-Selling Books Database )

おなじUSA TODAY の Book Buzz:King, Saxons and a 'castle' によると、"Duma Key" は、3刷までで955,000部刷られたようである。(さらに、おなじ記事には、ジョン・グリシャム/John Grisham の"The Appeal" が1月29日に発売になり、こちらは既に280万部刷られているため、来週も"Duma Key" が1位に座り続けるのは難しいのではないか、と指摘されてる。)
